Project Description
The Owner purchased the home in 2003 desiring to live in the Arden Park area and have his family be closer to work and school. He made minor cosmetic improvements to the home’s four bedrooms and desired to update the home’s two existing bathrooms, but requested no change to the exterior in these areas. Key to the project was the addition of a Master Suite with a large glass block enclosed tub and fire place, and the remodel of the existing kitchen / living area into a “Great Room” for entertaining. The garage was enlarged for additional storage, and a laundry room was added to the rear of the residence. At the areas of new addition the plate heights were increased to 10 feet from the existing 7 to 8 feet high ceilings, yet integrated with the lower ceiling heights in the existing bedroom areas. New roof trusses increased attic storage space and dramatically elevated curb appeal. An exterior deck was integrated into the plan and increased the entertaining area around the existing swimming pool. Wheelchair accessibility was incorporated into all common areas, including the new entry. Natural daylight floods into interior areas via skylights.
Accommodating the comfort of a 6’5″ tall gentleman and his growing (taller) family into a small suburban home with 7′ high ceilings was an interesting challenge for this project.
